Around The Corner And Back

Just returned from this incredible trip out the Columbia, up the coast
of Washington, into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and into the San Juan
Islands. After 5 weeks on board and over 800 miles, I’m ready for
land lubber time!

In short, this trip taught me many things about sailing short handed
and single handed. I learned about the California current and the
best paths for recreational boaters up and down the WA coast.

I learned how to manage sea sickness (at least for my body!) and how
to sleep during a rolly passage.

I learned what veggies will keep and what veggies will turn into mush!

I learned how invaluable a source of energy like solar panels can be.

I honed my single handed skills for anchoring, picking up a mooring
bouy and, of course sailing.

I learned when to use my big Genoa and main as well as when to put out
the staysail.

I came to understand the Big Bad Bar and how to navigate over the bar
under power AND under ‘sail’!

I met many fellow sailors and made many new friends.

This trip was all I expected and more!
